The Shade

Another summer day

Sitting in the cool of the shade

Sun blazing at high noon

Vibrant, blue sky and no clouds

I sip on an iced coffee

And slip on my headphones

Listening to some jazz hop

It’s the new normal

Meditating on life

Trying to take my mind off

Its organized chaos, and yet

Moments like that you know

You are truly alive and learning

From experience, from pain

But moments like today

Where I just get to reflect

Makes the pain worth it

Richens the experience

Helps me appreciate the people

I love, and realize at last

That it was all worth it.
