It wasn’t built in a day

Didn’t have the decency

to tighten up the bow,

couldn’t bother

to put the resin on,

sat there in the light

of the flickering flames,

burning up and whistling

some long forgotten tune

against the walls

while they still stood,

while there was still

breath in lungs unaffected

by the smoke,

listening to percussive

crackling and popping

of blue flames and the memories

sizzling in them
