Care Enough

It’s been busy

and it ain’t been busy

to tell you

the truth,

sittin’ here on the porch

with a drink and a book,

the sun out, sky clear,

howlin’ at the moon

silently, inaudible to the world,

waiting to get up again

and get to work,

tame the wild inside

and put the rest at rest

.

but it’d

be a shame to waste

the drink,

the book,

the mellow summer air

.

so pardon me if

I forget to care enough

to care enough

today

.

.

.

.

.

.
