Corporate Darkness

My life is one of pain

As I sit in my leather chair

Drinking Cristal,

Smoking Cuban Cigars,

I contemplate on the

Unfortunate state I’m in

Why must I toil in this mansion

By the sea? Why do

Everyday comforts no longer

Hold value anymore? I

Can only come to one truth,

That despite my gross income,

I am but oppressed. Why else

Would I feel so alone, so

Upset at everything around me?

My gold rings and silver watches

Are indeed a sign of bondage

To the horrible life I live,

So there’s no further evidence I

Need than to express my pain

In words only the particular people

Will understand, I am a man

Of the people after all?

Why just the other day,

I lost a penny at the stock

Market, forcing me to wait

On my fifth Lamborghini,

And there was one less

Strand of fur in my

Coat for next winter,

What a tragedy my life

Has become. But I know

The people will understand,

And all I will ask

Is for some charity

To help me through the

Struggle, because I

Am one of you, I

Am oppressed, I

Am full of edge and grit,

And you love me for it…

You will love me for it.

Poetry

Paradiso

There’s a corner

In my backyard

Under the oak tree

Where the shade

Hits just right

And the calming

Sounds of birds

Sing in the distance

I’ve seen possums

Sleep underneath

The grill cover

After a long night’s

Journey, and a

Cat and her kittens

Play in the cool

Of the shade

While cardinals and

Blue Jays land

On the ground

Looking for acorns

And insects.

The squirrel loves

To come by, trying

Hard to stay

Stealthy, but the

Fuzzy tail and

Suspicious look

Draw the curious

Attention of the other

Creatures in the yard

It is odd to see

Such harmony

In this urban jungle

But if oddities

Can equate to peace

Then I wouldn’t

Mind living

In such an odd world

Author’s Note: I’ve been thinking about a lot of things recently and reading back on some old works from the past. In honesty, I’ve been using this blog mostly as a way to release some negative energy, for lack of a better word or phrase, but after the events of 2020, and considering how things have been in 2021 so far, I’ve come to realize that the old ways haven’t really been working for me. After doing some reflecting, I feel it’s better to just take the positives when we get them and share the wealth around.

Poetry

Hearts On Fire

The ice cold ashes from failure

A broken heart, lying in pieces

Like a ruined stained glass

Window, tell only half the story

But since I met you, the ashes

Turned to embers, to a fire

And the pieces came together

Forging something new

And for the first time, in so long

Days don’t feel so bad

Maybe it’s the time of the

Season, the turning of the tide

But maybe it’s just you

And while I want us to be

Together in love, I know too

It may not happen, but if a bond

Can remain as strong as this

Then I have the peace of mind

You helped me feel complete
